“Produs Autohton”: Moldova’s Biggest Celebration of Local Food, Wine and Tradition Returns This August

If you’re planning a trip to Moldova this summer, mark your calendar for August 28–30, 2026. The Moldexpo International Exhibition Center in Chișinău will host the second edition of “Produs Autohton” (“Homegrown Product”), a three-day exhibition that brings together over 300 Moldovan producers, folk traditions, and — most temptingly for visitors — an enormous amount of food and wine.

Organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova, the event has grown into one of the country’s most vibrant showcases of local culture, and this year’s edition promises to be bigger than ever, with its own slogan: “Homegrown Product — Tradition and Pride!”

Spread across more than 2,300 square meters, the exhibition isn't just a trade fair — it's a full sensory introduction to Moldova. Expect tastings of traditional foods, national wines, and handmade crafts, alongside live folk music and dance performances throughout the three days. Organizers expect between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors over the weekend, so the atmosphere is guaranteed to be lively.

Day-by-Day Highlights

Friday, August 28 — Parade of Traditional Costume The festival opens with a colorful parade celebrating Moldovan folk heritage, featuring authentic traditional costumes, fashion inspired by folk motifs, and creations from local artisans and designers. It’s paired with an artistic program dedicated to the country’s cultural heritage — a great first taste of Moldovan identity for first-time visitors.

Saturday, August 29 — National Pie Festival This is the day food lovers won’t want to miss. The National Pie Festival (“plăcinte” — Moldova’s beloved stuffed flatbreads) will feature cooking demonstrations, tastings of traditional recipes, and interactive activities. The highlight: an attempt to bake the largest cherry pie ever made in Moldova.

Saturday, August 29 — “Top Wineries 2026” Gala The same day marks the first edition of a new national competition celebrating Moldova’s wine industry — one of the oldest in Europe, with winemaking traditions dating back thousands of years. The country’s top wineries will be honored at a special ceremony, complete with tastings, masterclasses, and presentations on Moldovan wine culture. For wine tourists, this is a rare chance to sample award-winning local wines in one place.

Throughout the weekend, the exhibition will feature folk music recitals, performances by traditional dance ensembles, etno-folk shows, and concerts from well-known Moldovan artists. The festival closes with a gala concert honoring local producers and the winners of the “Top Wineries 2026” competition.
