Chișinău After Dark: Wine Bars Worth Your Evening

Moldova is well known for its wine culture, with more than 200 wineries across a small but remarkably wine-focused country. It would be strange if Chișinău, the center of much of Moldova’s cultural and social life, did not offer good places to experience that tradition after dark (or in the daylight). While there are no vineyards in the capital itself, the city has developed a growing wine bar scene where local wine culture comes alive.
These wine bars offer more than bottles from established names like Purcari or Castel Mimi. They are also among the best places to discover smaller Moldovan producers that many travelers may never reach during a short visit. For anyone curious about local wine, an evening in Chișinău can be as revealing as a day at a winery – sometimes even more so.
We invite you to spend an evening in one – or several – of these wine bars, taste Moldovan wines for yourself, and see which bottles stay with you. And if you discover a favorite, let us know – we would love to hear which wines you enjoyed most.
A Few Tips Before You Go
- No need to overplan. One of the pleasures of Chișinău’s wine bar scene is how easy and relaxed it feels — there is usually room for wine lovers, even on busy evenings.
- Ask for lesser-known producers. Some of the most memorable bottles may come from smaller wineries you have never heard of, and staff are often happy to recommend them.
- Try wines by the glass. Many places offer tasting pours or generous by-the-glass options, making it easy to compare grape varieties and discover what styles you enjoy most.
Whether you stop at one wine bar or make an evening of several, we hope these places give you a deeper taste of Chișinău – and of Moldova’s wine culture beyond the big names.
